Beard Transplantation

Beard transplantation with the FUE technique involves the process of extracting follicular units from the nape (donor) area using a micro motor, similar to the hair transplantation technique. The distinction between beard transplant technique and hair transplant technique lies in the transfer of grafts from the dense neck region to the empty areas on the face and chin where men experience beard loss. Our specialists determine the natural beard lines before the surgery, and in collaboration with the patient, make joint decisions to achieve a harmonious appearance. The operation can be performed with local anesthesia or the sedation technique. All equipment used in the operation is sterile and disposable. The pain sensation is at a minimum level, and the beard transplant procedure takes approximately 6-8 hours, similar to a hair transplantation.

While theoretically possible with the DHI technique, in reality, beard transplantation with this technique cannot be practiced. In the beard transplantation with the Sapphire FUE technique, which is a hair transplant technique, the hair follicles taken with the FUE technique are placed in the open channels with the sapphire tip. The difference between the beard transplant technique and the hair transplant technique is the transfer of hair follicles taken from the donor area to the empty facial and chin line areas where men experience beard loss. Before graft placement, our team of experts determines the lines of the facial beard, and then, in collaboration with the patient, draws the beard. The hair transplantation can be performed with local anesthesia or with the sedation technique. All equipment used in the operation is sterile and disposable. The pain sensation is minimal, and the surgery can take 6-8 hours, just like a hair transplant. Haircity Istanbul has conducted hair and beard transplants with the Sapphire FUE technique for hundreds of patients from all over the world, achieving successful results and receiving positive feedback.

The utilization of sapphire blades to create microchannels has significantly enhanced the capacity to assess and transfer hair follicles from the donor to the recipient area, elevating the potential solutions in hair transplantation. The Safir FUE technique continually contributes to the advancement of natural-looking results. As the preferred choice for those envisioning a flawless hair transplant, Sapphire FUE enables us to achieve optimal outcomes in hair restoration. The widespread adoption of hair transplant procedures, offering enduring solutions to hair loss, is closely tied to the evolution of the FUE technique. While the meticulous collection of hair follicles one by one from the donor area and their transplantation into individually opened channels in the balding area constitute a microsurgical approach, the generation of numerous micro-wounds (ranging from 4 to 6 thousand) in a large area results in significant tissue damage. The Sapphire FUE hair transplantation technique minimizes tissue trauma caused by these micro-wounds. The channels opened by sharp sapphire blades are notably smaller, facilitating a smoother incision that considerably shortens the wound healing process, reduces tissue deformation, and leads to more naturally appearing hair transplant results.

In the initial stages, hair transplant specialists focus on determining the front hairline for patients presenting with hair loss complaints, aiming for a post-procedure appearance that is both natural and aesthetically pleasing. This involves avoiding a straight-line design and ensuring the proper placement of the front hairline. Following the determination of the front hairline, the area with substantial hair loss is identified. The FUE technique consists of four stages. Firstly, the donor area, where hair follicles will be collected, is shaved, marking the commencement of the procedure to facilitate the removal of hair follicles using a micromotor. Subsequently, the donor area is anesthetized with local anesthetic drugs, initiating the second stage. During this stage, hair follicles are meticulously collected one by one from the nape area using the micromotor method, chosen for its resistance to shedding. The collection of hair follicles typically takes about two hours. Once the acquisition of healthy hair follicles is complete, preserving them without damage is of utmost importance. The collected hair follicles are then placed in a special solution. The next step involves anesthetizing the area to be transplanted with local anesthesia, initiating one of the critical stages: the channel opening phase. After collecting the roots, canals are opened in the target area using special tools with steel tips, and the harvested hair follicles are transplanted into these channels one by one. Sapphire FUE hair transplantation is generally completed within an average of 7-8 hours.

Hair transplantation typically comprises four main stages:

1. **Preparation for Hair Transplantation:**
– Collection of hair and disinfection of the transplant area.
– Application of anesthesia to ensure the patient’s comfort throughout the procedure. The success of the operation often hinges on a well-executed preparation stage.

2. **Collection of Hair Roots:**
– In Sapphire FUE, hair follicles are carefully collected individually from the donor area.
– Utilization of micro-tips with diameters ranging from 0.6 to 0.7 to 0.8 mm, employing a precise micro motor.

3. **Channel Opening:**
– Creation of small (micro) channels to expedite the healing process.
– The opening of these channels significantly influences the appearance of the hair, dictating the angle, direction, and density.
– Acknowledged as the most critical stage, it directly impacts the overall success of the hair transplant operation.

4. **Transplantation of Hair Roots:**
– Methodical placement of collected hair roots into the previously prepared channels.
– The use of small channels, opened with sharp, smooth, and durable sapphire tips ranging from 1.0 to 1.3 to 1.5 mm, mirroring the size of the hair follicle.
– This approach allows for an increased number of channels, enabling a closer placement of hair follicles while adhering to the natural angle of 40-45 degrees for a more authentic result.
– The incorporation of sapphire tips minimizes the risk of creating an unnatural appearance, often referred to as “grass man.”

In addition to these stages, the text underscores the significance of prioritizing patient comfort during the process:

– **Painless, Needle-Free Hair Transplantation:**
– Administration of local anesthesia at the onset of the operation, prior to hair follicle extraction.
– Utilization of advanced anesthesia instruments for a needle-free and painless hair transplant experience.
– Special instruments employing a pressurized spray system to deliver anesthetic agents under the skin, covering a broader area compared to traditional needle-based local anesthesia.
– This needle-free method proves particularly advantageous for individuals with needle phobia or reservations about undergoing a hair transplant procedure.

The doctor also transplants the hair follicles at 40-45 degree angles, another point is to make it in accordance with the direction of the person’s previous hair.

After determining the angle and direction of the hair follicles placed in the Choi needle, sowing is done with the pushing feature of the needle; In the operation, between 2 and 6 Choi pencils and 15-16 Choi tips are used. The tips of the pencils can be of different sizes, this is determined by the person’s hair root and thickness structure. This method was applied for the first time in Kyungpook University in Korea. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that not every patient is suitable for hair transplantation with the Choi pen.

It has been shown that fine-stranded and crimped hair follicles are placed at the implanter tip and damaged during transplantation. In subsequent studies, implanter pen was produced not only for people with thick hair specific to Asians, but also for more general hair types. The implanter pen used today is between 0.64 mm and 1.0 mm.

At the point reached today, in the light of scientific and technological developments, operations are performed safely with Choi tips.

Therefore, effective, predictable, natural-looking hair is considered in hair transplantation with Choi tips in specialized clinics. Persons suitable for DHI hair transplantation are determined after a comprehensive examination. For this reason, people who decide to have hair transplantation should definitely find out whether they are suitable for hair transplantation as an examination by an experienced doctor.

When determining whether you are suitable for DHI hair transplantation, your current scale is determined first. In particular, your hair root depth and hair thickness will determine whether hair transplantation can be performed with the DHI method. In addition, your general health status must be favorable and you must be over the age of 18.

Before undergoing Sapphire FUE, it is crucial to carefully choose an experienced clinic, as relying on chance in delicate surgical procedures like Sapphire FUE is not advisable.

The use of sharp sapphire blades in Sapphire FUE necessitates surgical skill and experience. Regardless of the effectiveness of the technique, surgical proficiency, dexterity, and experience play pivotal roles in the Sapphire FUE hair transplantation method. The advanced nature of Sapphire FUE, compared to traditional FUE, does not automatically ensure successful results. Hair transplantation is not just a technical process but an aesthetic surgery operation with an artistic dimension.

In Sapphire FUE, the importance of this artistic quality becomes even more critical than in the standard FUE. Inexperienced application of Sapphire FUE may lead to undesired complications and unnatural hair transplant results, elevating the aesthetic risk associated with the procedure.

To enhance the overall outcome and support the healing process:

Ideally, cease smoking one week before the operation; if quitting is challenging, attempt to reduce smoking. Smoking can impede the healing process.

Stop consuming alcohol one week before the operation.

Refrain from consuming coffee and other caffeinated beverages.

Avoid green tea consumption one week before the hair transplantation procedure.

Provide comprehensive information to the physicians about any medications taken for chronic (e.g., diabetes, heart, blood pressure) or acute diseases.

Discontinue medications that prevent clotting (e.g., heparin, aspirin, coumadin, etc.) and multivitamins one week before the operation to minimize the risk of increased bleeding.

Cease applying medication and lotion to your scalp and hair one month before the operation.

Wash your hair before the operation and abstain from using hair styling or hardening products, such as gel or spray, on the day of the procedure.
